Broken Bow is a cabin getaway in the pine-covered hills of southeast Oklahoma, about three hours from Dallas. Most of the cabins sit up U.S. 259 from the town of Broken Bow in Hochatown, by Beavers Bend State Park, Broken Bow Lake and the Mountain Fork River. Many come with a hot tub, a fire pit and room for a group.
Where to stay
- Hochatown has the most cabins, along with the restaurants, wineries, breweries and shops, and is a short drive to the state park and the lake.
- Near Beavers Bend State Park puts you closest to the hiking trails and the Lower Mountain Fork River, which is stocked with trout all year.
- Around Broken Bow Lake suits boaters and anglers, with marinas and lake access on the north end.
- The town of Broken Bow, about 10 miles south, is handiest for groceries and errands and often has lower rates.
Best times to visit
- Fall colors: Late October into November; weekends book up early.
- Summer: Boating and swimming on the lake and floating the river. Expect heat and the busiest weekends.
- Winter: Quiet trails, hot-tub weather and the lowest rates.
- Spring: Dogwoods bloom, the rivers run high and weekday rates stay low.
