Panama City Beach stretches along 27 miles of white-sand Gulf shoreline in the Florida Panhandle, with everything from high-rise beachfront condos to family resorts and budget-friendly motels. It’s one of the easiest Florida beach trips to plan on a budget.
Where to stay
Front Beach Road is the main strip: most of the big beachfront condo towers and resorts sit here, close to Pier Park’s shops, restaurants and the City Pier.
Thomas Drive and the east end is quieter and near St. Andrews State Park, a good pick for families and anyone who wants calmer water and fewer crowds.
The west end, toward Laguna Beach, has more low-rise rentals and a slower pace.
Best times to visit
Best overall: Late April through May, and September through early October: warm Gulf water, beach weather and lower rates than summer.
Best value: Late fall and winter (November through February) bring the lowest rates. It’s too cool for swimming most days, but good for quiet beach walks.
Busiest: March for spring break, then June through mid-August for summer vacations, when rates and crowds peak.
Weather to know: Summer afternoons often bring short thunderstorms. Hurricane season runs June through November, with the highest risk from mid-August through early October.
Getting there
Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) is about 20 minutes from the beach. Many visitors drive in from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.
Tips for booking
Beachfront condos often have a pool and a full kitchen, which makes them good value for families and longer stays. Compare the nightly rate and the total with fees before you book, since cleaning and resort fees vary a lot between properties.
