Pensacola Beach sits on Santa Rosa Island, a barrier island with white quartz sand, clear Gulf water and long stretches of protected shoreline in the Gulf Islands National Seashore. It feels more laid-back than the bigger Panhandle resort towns.
Where to stay
The core of the island, around the Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier and Casino Beach, has the beachfront hotels, restaurants and nightlife within walking distance.
Fort Pickens Road, heading west, has condos and rentals on a quieter stretch close to the national seashore.
Via de Luna, heading east, mixes Gulf-front condo towers with private rentals.
Things to do
Explore Fort Pickens and the undeveloped beaches of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, fish or watch the sunset from the Gulf Pier, or head across the bridge to historic downtown Pensacola for dinner.
